Great Britain came through a doubles decider against home favourites Netherlands to book their place at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen from 16-21 September.
Fresh off a debut win yesterday, Sonay Kartal got the Brits off to a winning start with a well-deserved 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Eva Vedder, before Suzan Lamens levelled the tie against Katie Boulter in straight sets.
It all came down to the doubles decider and Captain Anne Keothavong elected to shake up the pairings electing for Boulter and Jodie Burrage.
With the tie on the line, Boulter and Burrage showed their quality in a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 win over Lamens and Demi Schuurs.
"That was my first win for my country – I’m unbelievably proud to say that," Burrage said after the tie. "It was great the way the day unfolded, the pressure was on us but we came out firing and I was very happy to do it with one of my best friends as well.
"That’s what we wanted to do this week – book our spot in Shenzhen."
This will be the third time in four years that GB have featured in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals having made the semi-finals twice.

Video highlights
Match one: Kartal makes it two wins from two on debut
Sonay Kartal got the Brits off to a winning start against the home nation with an impressive 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Eva Vedder in two hours and 13 minutes.
“I’m super proud of that performance,” Kartal said after her second win in two appearances for the Lexus GB team. “Physically at the end I was struggling with that one. I think the crowd helped me get through that, the girls on the bench helped me get through that and that one means a lot."
In a similar vein to her clash against Jule Niemeier yesterday, Kartal had to find her feet after going down a break in the first game of the opening set.
The Brit’s forehand proved her biggest weapon against the 25-year-old Dutch star – the heavy spin and depth putting Vedder under a lot of pressure from the back of the court.
It didn't take long for the world No.60 to unleash a huge forehand cross court winner to break back and level at 2-2, before later in the set, using it to her advantage again to force a crucial error with set point on the Dutchwoman’s serve.
Kartal had her opportunities to see off the match early in the second set, but Vedder showed her spirit to come through three deuce service games and fend off three break points to stay in the match.
Vedder was rewarded for her resilience with a break from nowhere in a tight game at 4-4 and with that boost of confidence, she managed to serve out the set and stun the British fans.
Despite the disappointment of losing the second, Kartal’s physicality proved a level above in the deciding set. The Briton continued to grind out point after point until eventually Vedder's resolve finally gave way.
Kartal reeled off five games in a row, finishing the match with an impressive 32 winners, to see out one of the most significant wins of her career.
Match two: Lamens’ winning streak continues as Netherlands level the tie
Netherlands’ Lamens levelled the tie at one win apiece after the world No.70 put on a clinical display to beat Britain’s Boulter 6-4, 6-3.
“I’m super happy to get the win and we’re still in the race to the finals,” Lamens said. “I was giving my all and feeding all my energy from you guys (the crowd) so thank you.”
Lamens came into the tie on a 12-match winning streak in the Billie Jean King Cup and having recently achieved a career high ranking off the back of a stellar start to the season.
Her confidence and comfort on the clay showed through the opening set where she capitalised on a series few mis-queued shots from Boulter to break in both the third and fifth games.
Boulter put up a strong fight on a surface where she’s only played one match since the Olympics last year, and had her chances to come back against the Dutch star.
From 4-1 down she managed to overturn one of the breaks with vastly improved consistency from the back of the court but ultimately, she was unable to stop Lamens serving out the set at the second time of asking.
The British No.1 showed great character yesterday to overturn a heavy deficit and they looked set to go the distance after Boulter got off to a strong start to the second set with a 3-1 lead.
However, the unforced errors soon started to set in once again for Boulter up against a very solid opponent. A missed drive volley at 30-30 on her next service game opened the gap for Lamens to quickly see off the break in what would start a run of five straight games for the Dutchwoman to see out a hard-fought victory in just over an hour and 20 minutes.
Match three: Boulter & Burrage combine in doubles masterclass
Boulter and Burrage sealed Great Britain’s place in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over Lamens and Schuurs in the deciding doubles.
Captain Anne Keothavong switched up the doubles pairings going into the tie decider, with Boulter and Burrage getting the nod ahead of their teammates for the high-stakes encounter.
Boulter and Burrage had only ever played one doubles match together going into the match but played a solid match against a team who hadn’t lost in all eight matches played together.
The Brits repaid their Captain’s confidence in spades. They made their presence known early, not only seeing off four break points on Boulter’s opening service game but going on to seal a double break of their own, both coming against doubles specialist Schuurs.
Playing two traditional singles players meant that the British team were able to bring level of pace to their game that the Dutch side were unable to handle in the big moments, and so it proved once again in the second set.
The Brits saved multiple break points again before launching another attack on the Schuurs serve with the same result. Boulter found an Andy Murray-esque backhand lob to set up a fourth break point before seeing out the game with another forehand winner.
With the chance to serve for the match and a place in the Finals, Burrage held her nerve at deuce to see out a huge victory with an ace.
