What is the Billie Jean King Cup Finals?
Formerly known as the Fed Cup, the Billie Jean king Cup – named in honour of former world No.1 Billie Jean King – is dubbed the women’s World Cup of tennis and is the biggest annual women’s team sporting event in the world.
The format follows 12 nations who will go head-to-head in four round-robin groups comprising three nations, with only the winners of each group to qualify for the semi-finals.

This year’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals will be held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, where host nation, Great Britain, will join Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland, Spain, Solvakia, Switzerland and the USA.
The Emirates Arena is located in Dalmarnock in Glasgow, Scotland and is considered one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe with a capacity of 8,200.
Which British stars have been selected for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals 2022?
Billie Jean King Captain Anne Keothavong - who is into her fifth year of leading the British side - has announced her official top five to play in this year’s squad with an array of up-and-coming stars listed in the line-up.
Harriet Dart leads the British charge after having a stellar season, breaking into the top 100, and making a memorable debut in Indian Wells, posting wins over top players including Elina Svitolina and Kaia Kanepi to reach the fourth round of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in her career. Dart also achieved her first top 10 win back in September after ousting Daria Kasatkina in the first round of the US Open.
The British No.2 will be accompanied by a former British No.1 in the form of Heather Watson. With eight Tour-level titles to her name, and a total of 33 Billie Jean King Cup ties, Watson takes her place as the most experienced member of the British squad.
The 30-year-old has also enjoyed an excellent Wimbledon campaign this year, progressing to the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time.
Watson wasn’t the only Brit to impress at Wimbledon as fellow teammate, Katie Boulter, joined her in unlocking new personal records, posting a new career-best following her second defeat over the former world No.1, Karolina Pliskova, in just two weeks to advance to her first major third round.
Great Britain will also be introducing two new players to the squad with Britain’s top women’s doubles players, Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls, competing in the tournament for the first time.
Together Barnett and Nicholls have won three doubles titles this year, including their first WTA trophy in Granby only a few months ago. The duo have also won titles at the W100 Grodzisk Mazowiecki and W60 Bellinzona this year, as well as reaching the final in their first WTA event in Lyon.
