Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers 2025: Five-strong team named to face Germany & Netherlands

• 4 MINUTE READ

Lexus GB Billie Jean King Cup captain Anne Keothavong has named her five player team to play Germany and Netherlands in the upcoming Qualifiers from 10-12 April.

The British team - who made the semi-finals last year - will include three top 100 singles players in Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu and Sonay Kartal, as well as former world No.70 Harriet Dart and British doubles No.1 Olivia Nicholls.

Commenting on the squad and the upcoming Qualifiers, Keothavong said: "I’m incredibly proud to name these players to represent Great Britain on the Billie Jean King Cup team.

"With the change in format, the competition will be even more challenging but I’m confident I’ve got a group of players who will rise to the occasion and give it their best. Representing our country is always an honour and we look forward to the challenge with the fans’ support behind us."

The Brits will take on the Dutch and German teams in a new round-robin format for this year’s Qualifiers, with the top nation from the week heading to the Finals later this year.

The ties will be played at Sportcampus Zuiderpark, The Hague, on indoor clay courts.

The remaining two teams will have to play in the Billie Jean King Cup Play-Offs for the chance to return to the Qualifiers in 2026.

Katie Boulter

  • Age: 28
  • Ranking: 38
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 15
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: 14-5

Boulter will once again lead Keothavong’s side at the Billie Jean King Qualifier in the Netherlands this year. The British No.1 has been a mainstay in the GB team since her debut in 2019 and boasts an impressive record in the competition. Last year, she won three matches in ties against France, Germany and Canada to help GB secure a place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, on tour, Boulter has fully cemented herself amongst the top players on the WTA Tour. The 28-year-old won two titles last year in Nottingham and San Diego, as well as reaching a career-high at world No.23. So far in 2025, she has played a key role in GB’s quarter-final run at the United Cup and made the second round at the Australian Open.

Emma Raducanu

  • Age: 22
  • Ranking: 55
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 5
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: 6-1

Raducanu was arguably the standout player from Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup campaign last year - winning all five of her rubbers. The 22-year-old defeated both former world No.4 Caroline Garcia and Diane Parry in the Qualifiers, before claiming victories over Jule Niemeier, Rebecca Marino and Viktoria Hruncakova.

The former US Open champion reached the third round at the Australian Open at the start of the year with gutsy wins over two top 40 opponents and recently, the young Briton knocked out former world No.3 Maria Sakkari in Dubai.

Sonay Kartal

  • Age: 23
  • Ranking: 83
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 0
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: N/A

Kartal has been in the form of her life over the last six months. Not only has she won her first WTA title in Monastir at the back end of last season, more recently, the 23-year-old has reached the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells. Having come in as a lucky loser, the young Briton recorded wins over Varvara Lepchenko, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Polina Kudermetova before losing out to world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the last 16. Her performance should see her rise to a new career-high on Monday.

This will be the second time that Kartal has been part of the Billie Jean King Cup team, having linked up with the Brits for an away tie against Czech Republic in Prague back in 2021. While she didn’t feature in GBs 3-2 loss, that experience will be valuable heading to The Hague in April.

Harriet Dart

  • Age: 28
  • Ranking: world No.116 / world No.62 - doubles
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 9
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: 6-7

Dart will arrive in the Netherlands full of confidence following her recent form on the ITF Tour. The 28 year old - who has become a regular addition to Keothavong’s squad over the years - reached her first final of the year at the W75 Porto where she narrowly missed out on the silverware to Canada’s Victoria Mboko. Prior to that, she also reached the second round at the Australian Open after winning her first round match against Jana Fett as a lucky loser.

When it comes to the Billie Jean King Cup, the British No.4 always manages to dig deep and rise to the occasion. Time and time again, Dart has produced some of her best tennis while representing Great Britain - recording wins over former world No.2 Paula Badosa and 2022 Wimbledon quarter-finalist Ajla Tomljanovic at the tournament. Her extensive experience of competing in the team, combined with her reliable single and doubles games, make her a great option for Keothavong in the upcoming Qualifiers.

Olivia Nicholls

  • Age: 29
  • Ranking: 42 - doubles
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 5
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: 3-2

Nicholls completes the Lexus GB Billie Jean King Cup team and enters as the only doubles specialist in the squad.

It’s been three years since Nicholls made her Billie Jean King Cup debut at the 2022 Finals in Glasgow. Since then, she’s gone on to compete in five ties for her country with her latest appearance coming at last year’s Finals in Malaga where she and Heather Watson were defeated in the semi-finals.

The doubles British No.1 has already made a strong start to the new season. Last month, she and Australian tennis star Olivia Gadecki joined forces to reach the semi-final at the Abu Dhabi Open and has also reached the final four at the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells alongside Tereza Mihalikova.
