Formats, rules and scoring confirmed for Battle of the Brits Team Tennis
• 3 MINUTE READ
With the St James’s Place Battle of the Brits Team Tennis tournament taking place next week fans are eagerly anticipating seeing their favourite British stars back on court. With the top men’s and women’s players coming together for this unique team event, find out more about the format of the tournament, its rules and scoring.
Event Outline
Over the course of the week there will be 60 matches in total – 40 singles and 20 doubles matches. Players from the Union Jacks and British Bulldogs will face off across the 7 days to gain points for their team, with the first team to reach 60 points being crowned the eventual champions. That means that every match counts and throughout the event individual matches will be worth between 1 and 5 points.
But no two matches are the same and as the week progresses the stakes will only get higher, with points available per match increasing each day. This will eventually build up to a ‘Super Sunday’ where there will be 10 matches with a total of 29 points up for grabs.
You can see a full breakdown of the points available below.
Team Selection
Each team member must be nominated for 2 matches across the week. The first match must be between Monday and Wednesday, and the second between Thursday and Sunday.
Players can only play a maximum of 2 matches per day, but can only compete in 1 match of any discipline – Singles, Doubles and Mixed.
Teams must make their nominations for the next day’s play by 7:00pm each day.
How will matches be scored?
Singles matches will be played as a best of 3 sets format, with Ad scoring and a 10pt match tie-breaks. Changeover times will be 60 seconds with 120 seconds at the end of sets.
Doubles matches will also be scored as a best of 3 sets but without Ad scoring. They will also have a 10pt match tie-break at 1 set all and changeover time will be 45 seconds with 90 seconds at the end of sets.
