• 3 MINUTE READ
Jacob Fearnley will make his Australian Open main draw debut up against home favourite Nick Kyrgios as one of seven British players included in this year’s men’s and women’s singles draws.
British No.1 Jack Draper is set to face world No.46 Mariano Navone, while 29-year-old Cam Norrie has a tough draw against former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini.
In the women’s singles draw, 22nd seed Katie Boulter will begin her account against Canadian Rebecca Marino and Emma Raducanu’s Australian Open campaign gets underway with a tricky match up with 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Sonay Kartal is the only other Brit making their main draw debut in Melbourne up against 22-year-old Spanish star Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
Jodie Burrage – who made this year’s main draw on her protected ranking – plays French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean in round one.
Harriet Dart and Billy Harris both lost out in the final round of qualifying.

Tough paths for the Brits in the men’s singles
Fearnley’s clash with 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios will be a standout match for many fans ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year.
The British No.3 – who was recently included in the Lexus GB Davis Cup team for the first time – is one of the form players of the last six months, having won four ATP Challenger titles since the beginning of June. This is the first time the 23-year-old has qualified for a Slam based on ranking after breaking into the top 100 at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios is playing in his first major for 18 months coming off the back of long-standing injury issues. The Australian – who is a wild card entry this year – also admitted that he has an abdominal issue at the moment, coming off his tour return in Brisbane.
The winner of this clash could face 28th seed Sebastian Baez in the second round and then No.2 seed Alexander Zverev in round three.
Norrie has arguably one of the hardest draws of any British player. First up, a replay of the 2021 cinch Championships final against big-serving Italian Berrettini and if he manages to come through that, it could be 13th seed Holger Rune in the second round. Berrettini is a former semi-finalist at the Australian Open, while Norrie made the fourth round for the first time last year.
Draper will kick-start his 2025 season against Argentina’s Navone – a player he defeated in their only previous match up at the cinch Championships last year. The British No.1 has delayed the beginning of his season to aid his recovery from a hip injury but after an impressive end to the year – reaching the US Open semi-finals and winning his first ATP 500 in Vienna – and will be hoping to get off the ground quickly.
In the second round he could face Thanasi Kokkinakis, who had that legendary match against Andy Murray only two years ago, or Roman Safiullin, before a potential clash with 22nd seed Sebastian Korda. Draper is in the same half of the draw as Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Zverev.
Four Brits ready to get women’s singles draw underway
Boulter will lead the way for the Brits after a positive start to the year helping GB to the quarter-final of the United Cup. Boulter leads the head-to-head against world No.98 Marino 2-0 and most recently defeated her en route to the 2024 Rothesay Open Nottingham title.
A win for Boulter would see her play Olivia Gadecki for the second time already this year, or Veronika Kudermetova, before a potential third round against 15th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia and fourth round vs two-time Grand Slam finalist Jasmine Paolini.
Raducanu is the only Briton to draw a seeded player in the first round. Alexandrova has had mixed results over the past few months – the best coming with a quarter-final run in Wuhan – but has already played three matches in Australia, while Raducanu has been dealing with injury after an impressive outing at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Kartal broke into the top 100 for the first time at the end of last year after winning her first WTA title in Monastir. Her reward is a first Australian Open main draw where she has drawn Bouzas Maneiro, who recently represented Spain at the United Cup. A win for Kartal would likely set up the challenge of facing back-to-back champion and world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.
Burrage’s return from injury continues to go from strength-to-strength having finished 2024 with her biggest title at the W100 Dubai, and now has a favourable draw against qualifier Jeanjean. Like Kartal however, a win would see her move on to face a tough task in world No.3 Coco Gauff or former champion Sofia Kenin.
