Australian Open 2025: Henry Patten & Harri Heliovaara reach men’s doubles final

Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara will bid for a second Grand Slam men’s doubles title at the Australian Open after battling past fourth seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in a deciding match tie-break.
The British, Finnish team won six of the last seven points to beat the Germans 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(10-7) in two hours on the Rod Laver Arena.
Patten and Heliovaara made their breakthrough last summer after winning the Wimbledon men’s doubles title and could be set to write more history in Melbourne this weekend.
In the final they will face third seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
“It’s all happened within a blink of an eye – it feels like Wimbledon was only yesterday," Patten said. "I think we’ll be a little more comfortable out there with the Wimbledon final under our belts but there will always be nerves. That’s the reason you play as well – you get a nice adrenaline rush.
“I think we’re both really looking forward to it. At Wimbledon we were quite anxious and just wanted to get going but this one we can enjoy."
World No.13 Patten will be bidding to become only the fourth Briton in the Open Era to lift multiple Grand Slam titles – joining Roger Taylor, Jamie Murray and Joe Salisbury.
He is also one of four British players to win a major men's doubles trophy in the last 10 years.
“Without question we (Great Britain) have the best set up in the world for doubles," he said. "That’s because of things Leon Smith has implemented and we have Louis Cayer, the best doubles coach in the world.
"We have full access to the National Tennis Centre, to all the physios, we have great support on the road and it’s quite rare to see a country invest so much in doubles and I think it’s really paid off. The results have been amazing and it’s special to be a part of it."
Patten and Heliovaara continue to show their best tennis in the decisive moments of matches. In the final set against Krawietz and Puetz, they managed to see off four break points to force a match tie-break.
The British, Finnish duo then found themselves 6-4 down in the tie-break after a double fault from Patten handed over the mini-break.
The sixth seeds came through the Wimbldeon final in a match tie-break and showed their spirit in the big moment once again. Patten ripped a forehand winner past Krawietz on a tight angle to recover the break before they went on to win all but one of the last seven points – serving out the win on their first match point.
The final will be their third meeting with Bolelli and Vavassori, both with one win apiece. Patten and Heliovaara beat the Italians in the first round at Wimbledon en route to their first major title.
Bolelli and Vavassori are undefeated in 2025 so far having won the title in Adelaide a few weeks ago. They’ve now won nine matches in a row.
In the semi-final they came from a set behind to beat Andre Goransson and Sem Verbeerk 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
“We lost to them in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago in a close high-level match," Patten said.
"I know that Harri is an outrageously competitive personality who is going to give 100% to win every single point, and he knows that I will do the same. We know each other so well, so when we’re on court we just have to go out and show our personalities.”
