In 2024, BRITA became the official water partner of the LTA, and the first ever non-single-use water brand to sponsor British tennis.
With this partnership, BRITA and the LTA are on a mission to make single-use plastic bottled water a thing of the past, proving that big sporting events don’t have to mean plastic waste.
BRITA water will be available on tap across four of the LTA’s major tournaments in summer 2024, supplying sustainable water solutions via BRITA water dispensers and reusable bottles (for those who haven’t brought a reusable bottle with them).
By replacing single-use plastic bottled water with BRITA water, BRITA and the LTA will prevent the use of over 100,000 water bottles across the tournaments! A solution that allows us to be kinder to the planet, without compromising on quality, experience, and most importantly, taste.
BRITA’s 2023 whitepaper found that an additional 413 million single-use-plastic water bottles are predicted to be sold over the next five years (2022-2026) as a direct result of advertising and marketing tactics, including big sponsorship deals.
Inspired by this, BRITA and LTA have jointly committed to help shift positive sponsorship associations to sustainable brands – transforming the conversations around sustainability in sport and proving that sustainable alternatives are a viable option.
Whilst this partnership is a step in the right direction, BRITA’s mission against single-use plastic bottled water doesn’t stop here – hoping that the partnership will inspire more fans, communities, players and tournaments to follow in these footsteps.
Bringing a reusable bottle
At the 2024 major LTA tournaments, single-use plastic water bottles won’t be available to purchase. Instead, event attendees will be encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle (BRITA or other, their choice) to refill at the venues from BRITA water dispensers.
All players, officials, and ball boys and girls will be given their own reusable BRITA bottle to utilise at the tournaments too.
