Conor Flynn enjoyed his first ITF title success, while Elizabeth Evans reached her first ITF final.
Conor won the U18 Boys’ singles at the J30 ITF tournament in Liverpool, crowned champion after a hard-fought a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory over fellow Brit Jakob Bonnett in the final.
Conor, who thanked all the people who had supported him, and paid tribute to Jakob, was pleased with his overall performance, commenting: “I played great tennis throughout the week and stayed calm and composed in every match I played. I took it one point at a time.”
Elizabeth was runner up at the J30 ITF event in Dublin, losing out in the final 2-6, 3-6 to Laura Palumbo from Luxembourg. Speaking after the final she said: “I’m very happy with my performance, getting to my first final of an ITF competition.
“I played some very good tennis throughout but, despite not playing my best tennis in the final, I think I can be proud of the stage I got to. Thanks to my coaches; Fran, Craig, Luke and Eli for supporting me and helping me in this achievement.”
Tennis Wales Head of Performance Chris Lewis said: “Congratulations to Conor and Elizabeth. They are two more bright lights in Welsh tennis. Their achievements show how both players are progressing and moving in the right direction.”
