Viktor Frydrych moves into Europe’s top 10

• 2 MINUTE READ

Welsh player Viktor Frydrych is currently ranked at number 7 in the U14 Tennis Europe rankings courtesy of his excellent recent results in some of the circuit’s highest level events.

Having started the year ranked around 150 Viktor competed in the Junior International, Bolton (semi-final), Les Petits As, Tarbes (2nd round), Djursholms Juniors, Stockholm (winner), Kungens Kanna, Stockholm (semi-final) and Tim Essone, France (semi-final) as well as representing Team GB in the U14 Boys Winter Cup by HEAD.

The recent results have no doubt been Viktor’s best so far but there have been years of hard work and commitment to an extensive training and competitive schedule prior to this international success. In September last year Viktor’s family made the decision to take him to train at the ‘Good To Great’ academy in Stockholm, Sweden which is run by former world number one Magnus Norman and coach to Stan Warwinka. It was a big decision but one which looks to be paying off as Viktor is very happy and progressing well there. Viktor said “I’m really enjoying the new training environment here at Good to Great and I’m just trying to focus on working hard and staying disciplined. I have a long way to go and so I need to be patient and enjoy all of the experiences along the way”.

Viktor had a number of goals set out for this year with his primary coach, Jens Jacobson but much of that has been put on hold at the moment. It’s a difficult time to plan but he will keep trying to work hard and improve. While there are fewer competitions to play it will give Viktor the chance to focus more heavily on his school work which he currently does online. The academy are always helpful in ensuring that there is time to get work done around training sessions.

Once the international competition schedule returns Viktor will be back in action around Europe and will be looking to continue to show that he belongs amongst the top players in the world for his age.
