• 3 MINUTE READ

Want to recognize an outstanding individual, club or tennis venue in your network? In collaboration with the LTA, Tennis Wales is delighted to announce that nominations for the Tennis Wales and LTA Awards are now open.

Designed to recognise the extraordinary contribution of those who help to open the sport up to new audiences, the awards celebrate individuals and venues that make a difference in the local community - from the 25,000 volunteers, to the 4,400 coaches and almost 1,000 officials to over 20,000 schools, 2,700 clubs and over 9,700 LTA approved tournaments across the UK.

This year the categories include:

  • Volunteer of the Year Award
  • Young Person of the Year Award
  • Coach of the Year:
    • Development Coach of the Year Award
    • Performance Coach of the Year Award
  • Club of the Year Award
  • Community & Parks Award
  • Education Award
    • Schools / School Sports Network
    • University
  • Disability Award
  • Official of the Year Award
  • Competition of the Year Award
  • Lifetime Achievement
  • Tennis Wales President Award - this will include any nominations which may not fall within any of the above criteria.

As in previous years our Welsh winners will go forward to the LTA’s judging panel along with the regional winners from across England and Scotland. 30 outstanding individuals and venues will then be shortlisted as national finalists and be invited to the LTA Tennis Awards national ceremony in July 2021, where 12 overall winners will be crowned.

Speaking about the awards, Tennis Wales CEO Simon Johnson said: “2020 has been an extraordinary year, and there are brilliant people across Wales who have helped navigate our sport through a really difficult period. The Tennis Wales Awards are a great way for us to recognise the amazing people in tennis who are doing a superb job and we encourage you to nominate tennis people in your community.”

Nominations close at midnight on the 15th November. Our Tennis Wales judging panel will meet to discuss each nomination, deciding upon the shortlist and overall winner in December. Details of the shortlisted nominees and the ceremony itself will be circulated towards the end of the year. Though the ceremony will take a different format than usual due to the Coronavirus and restrictions in place, we look forward to recognising the many fantastic achievements of 2020.
