Niall Pickerd-Barua Triumphs at Lexus U14 Grass Court Championships

• 3 MINUTE READ

Niall Pickerd-Barua has made a spectacular start to the grass court season by winning both the singles and doubles titles at the LTA U14 Lexus Grass Court Championships. This annual event showcases the best players aged 14 and under from across Great Britain.

Niall's journey to the singles title was marked by several challenging matches, culminating in a thrilling final. After dropping the first set 2-6, he made a remarkable comeback to win the match with scores of 2-6, 7-5, 6-0. His resilience and determination were evident as he battled through tough competition to emerge victorious.

In addition to his singles success, Niall also claimed the doubles title alongside his partner, Aran Selvaraasan, whom he had faced in the singles final. The duo demonstrated excellent teamwork and skill, winning both their semi-final and final matches in third set tie-breakers.

A significant incentive for participants in the Lexus U14 Grass Court Championships is the opportunity for the finalists to earn wild card entries into the prestigious Wimbledon U14 Invitational Event. This event takes place during the second week of The Championships at Wimbledon, providing Niall with a chance to compete on world-renowned courts against top U14 players from around the globe.

Welsh representation at the event was commendable, with Max Lendrum, Rundong Huang, and Awen Gwilym-Davies also participating. Awen finished a notable 6th place in the girls' singles draw of 32 players, while Rundong reached the semi-finals in the boys' doubles event. Max, competing a year young, will have the opportunity to return next year.

This victory marks a significant milestone in Niall Pickerd-Barua's burgeoning tennis career, and his upcoming participation in the Wimbledon U14 Invitational Event is highly anticipated.
