The South Wales under-14 Boys’ team made history when they were crowned National LTA County Cup Champions at Nottingham Tennis Centre this weekend.
It was the first time a Welsh county has won the under-14 event.
The team featured Archie Gray, Kevin Rundong Huang, Evan Lendrum, Oliver Page, and Niall Pickerd-Barua, from venues across South Wales.
The result went down to the wire in a nail-biting finish, the team winning through on a doubles tie break shoot-out against Suffolk, after the singles matches ended all square at 3-3.
The team reached the final after topping Group A, beating Yorkshire, Northamptonshire and North of Scotland.
They faced Suffolk in the final after the East Anglian county finished at the head of Group B.
County Captain Luke Simeone was full of praise for the players. He said: ‘We had an amazing weekend. The boys gave it their all in every match. They battled for every point in the final, from the start to championship point.
‘Their attitude and commitment on and off the court over the three days was superb. Myself and Tom are so proud of them, and they deserved to be National champions.’
The result sees South Wales sit in 13th place in the County Cup Race Leaderboard with other junior and senior age groups to take place this summer.
