Mimi Xu won her first pro title with doubles success at the ITF W15 Monastir Magic Hotels Tour FTT in Tunisia, while Bronte Murgett reached the semi-finals of the W15 in Montreal.
Mimi and partner Radka Zelnickova, seeded three, fought back from losing the first set of their final against Elena Milovanovic and Tamira Paszek 2-6, to win the second set by the same scoreline, and take overall victory 10-6 in the third tiebreaker. It capped a great tournament for the duo, with the set they lost in the final the only one they dropped in the whole event
Bronte fell to eventual winner, third seed Jessica Failla of the USA in her semi-final in Canada. The American took the first set 6-2, and the second set 6-0, before going on to beat compatriot Jessie Aney in the final, also in straight sets. On her way to the semis Bronte enjoyed two straight-sets wins, and a hard-fought victory over number-8 seed Ashton Bowers.
Tennis Wales Head of Performance Chris Lewis said: “Da iawn to Mimi and Bronte. Both players continue to progress and make their mark in international tennis. Results like these are another example of the talent we have in Welsh tennis.”
