International Women's Day: Celebrating Amazing Women in Welsh Tennis

On International Women's Day we have shone the spotlight on five amazing females in Welsh tennis.
Wendy Griffiths
Wendy is a coach and Open Court Lead for the Powys area – a role overseeing the promotion and delivery of diversity and inclusion, including walking tennis and in SEN schools. When not coaching Wendy plays tennis, as well as doing triathlons. |

Katherine Maddock-Lyon
Katherine is a senior performance and club coach and an LTA referee – she is the highest ranked official in Wales. She manages the junior coaching and competitive programme at David Lloyd in Cardiff and primarily referees junior grade 3-5 tournaments.

Mimi Xu
Mimi from Swansea is the British National Champion at 18U and 16U, winning back-to-back titles in April 2022, something that had never been accomplished before. Her success has seen her rise to 25th in the girls’ World rankings. Outside of tennis, Mimi enjoys reading, playing piano and baking. |

Ellie Lewis
Level-4 Performance coach Ellie has over 20 years’ experience in coaching, mentoring and club development. She plays county and national level tennis and won four titles at the 2022 Welsh Tennis & Padel Championships. She worked for Tennis Wales for 16 years in a wide range of positions, and has recently taken on the position of Head Coach at Radyr LTC and is Co-Director at Tennis Squad. She is passionate about attracting and retaining more females into our great sport. |

Bethan Lewis
Bethan is director of strategic PR consultancy Brandrocker, and uses this expertise to advise Tennis Wales as a Board member. She was crowned mixed doubles tennis champion, and ladies padel doubles champion at the Welsh National Championships in 2022. She has two children who have started their own tennis journeys. |
