Abby Lifts Doubles Title
• 2 MINUTE READ
Abby Kelliher won her first international title of the year with success in the doubles at the ITF J100 event in Loughborough.
Abby and partner Given Roach came out on top in a keenly-fought final against fellow Brits Daniela Piani and Mika Stojsavljevic 6-4,2-6, 10-5. Their achievement was even more impressive by the fact that the duo weren’t seeded.
It’s been a great few months for Abby, who helped Team GB girls’ Under-16s to the final of the Tennis Europe Winter Cup, where they finished runners up to the Czech Republic.
Speaking about her win Abby said: “As we weren’t seeded each round was tough, we have won two titles together now, we work hard for each other, fighting for every point. Doubles is sometimes overlooked. Lots of the top players have started playing more doubles, I’d love to play doubles at the top level”.
Tennis Wales’ Head of Performance Chris Lewis said: “Llongyfarchiadau to Abby for a great result. To win this doubles title is a great achievement and demonstrates the progress that Abby continues to make.”
