• 3 MINUTE READ

The winners were crowned after three days of action at the 2024 TS Open Tour National Doubles Championships.

In form pro Scot Ewen Lumsden teamed up with former world number 44 Jonny O’Mara to take the men’s title, while Stirling-based Hephzibah Oluwadare and fellow top junior Marelie Raath clinched the women’s trophy.

After qualifying group stages, main draw action began on Saturday at Scotstoun with O’Mara and Lumsden named as the top men’s seeds.

The pair picked up a straight-sets win against Joe Gill and Ruairidh Fraser to open their campaign before defeating Ethan Hance and Joe Miller to book a spot in the semi-finals and round off a dominant day of doubles.

O’Mara and Lumsden would meet third seeds Euan Mcintosh and Cameron Fryer in the semis, while the other half of the draw saw University of Stirling’s Rob Cowley and Liam Hignett advance to play Alex Maggs and David Quayle after both pairs won in third-set match tie-breaks.

Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, Oluwadare and Raath entered unseeded and began their tournament with a straight-sets win over Holly Sheeran-Hall and Lucy Furness.

The pair proceeded to knock out Heidi Crncan and Mia Wainwright 6-3 6-4 to book their place in Sunday’s final four against top seeds Emma Wilson and Abigail Amos.

Heather Barlow and Anna McKnight progressed to the other semi-final after the Newlands pair put together a day of dominant performances. They would face second seeds Mhairi Beattie and Sarah Mcfadyen.

Sunday morning saw Oluwadare and Raath upset Wilson and Amos in a tight three-set dual. Oluwadare and Raath recovered from a set down to win 3-6 6-2 10-6. In the other semi, Barlow and McKnight defeated Beattie and Mcfadyen 6-1 6-4 to secure their final spot.

As for the men, O’Mara and Lumsden continued their form by putting on an impressive display to beat Mcintosh and Fryer 6-4 6-2 and advance to the final.

Cowley and Hignett found themselves in another third-set match tie-break against Maggs and Quayle with the Stirling students edging their way to the final 6-4 3-6 10-7.

There was little between the pairs in the first set of the women’s final with Oluwadare and Raath winning 6-4 over Barlow and Mcknight before capitalising on their lead to charge to the title 6-0 in the second.

The men’s final followed with O’Mara and Lumsden complete their title campaign as they clinched the title over Cowley and Hignett 6-4 6-3.
