TS Open Tour titles for Hamish Stewart and Heather Barlow, as Cameron Rae does the double

• 2 MINUTE READ

Hamish Stewart lifted his second TS Open Tour title of the summer as he won the West of Scotland Championships.

Fresh from claiming the Scottish Grass Court Championships in Giffnock, the 25-year-old was in fine form all week at his home club, Western Health and Racquets Club, clinching the trophy by beating Ewen Lumsden in the final.

Stewart completed the week without dropping a set, beating Fraser Craig, Kyle McKay and Cameron Fryer en route to his meeting with Lumsden, who had reached the decider thanks to wins over Jack Deveney, Callum McGinn and Nicolas Rosenzweig.

The first set of the final comfortably went Stewart’s way 6-1, before he wrapped up the title by coming through a tighter second set 7-5.

“It was a great week and really nice to play at Western, which has been my home club since I was 10,” said Stewart. “These have been the perfect tournaments for me to get some matches and now I’m looking forward to going out to play some Challengers in the next few weeks.”

In the women’s event, Heather Barlow was at the top of her game as she cruised to the title, also without dropping a set.

After seeing off Megan O’Brien, Sorcha Caves and Aadya Iyer Chadalawada, the final saw Barlow face her Newlands LTC Scottish Cup-winning teammate Anna McKnight, who had enjoyed straight-sets wins over Nikemi Olafare, Luisa Cartwright and Verena Scott.

Barlow proved too strong in the showpiece, coming through 6-2, 6-1 to get her hands on the trophy.

"I am really delighted to win the West of Scotland Championships as part of the TS Open Tour," she said. "It was a well organised week with a great atmosphere which raised the level of competition."

There’s more TS Open Tour action this week as the North East of Scotland Championships take place at Cults Tennis Club.

Murray calls time on incredible career

Andy Murray brought the curtain down on his incredible career at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Competing at the Games for the fifth time, Murray and Dan Evans produced some remarkable displays that will live long in the memory.

They saved a total of seven match points in their first two rounds to proceed to the quarter-finals of the men's doubles, where American duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul proved too strong.

Cameron Rae does the double on clay

It was a fantastic week for Cameron Rae as he picked up singles and doubles titles at the 11U Lexus Clay Court Championships in Bournemouth.

Cameron won all seven of his singles matches – three in qualifying and four in the main draw – without dropping a set during the national event at West Hants LTC.

It was a similar story in doubles, where Cameron teamed up with Matyas Oprchal to lift the title, the pair beating Fraser Newcombe and Louis Garner in the final.
