Third pro title of the year for Hamish Stewart, junior joy and senior success
• 2 MINUTE READ
Hamish Stewart picked up his third pro title of the year, winning doubles at the Open Masculin 86 on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
Stewart joined forces with Eero Vasa in Poitiers, France, to add to the doubles title he won with David Poljack in Sunderland and his singles triumph in Bucharest last month.
An impressive week for the Scot also saw him reach the final of singles at the M15, where he was edged out in three sets by one of the men he conquered in the final with Vasa, the second seed Tristan Lamasine.
Stewart and Vasa reached the semis thanks to a walkover victory in the quarter-finals, before holding their nerve in a match tie-break 10-8 to seal their place in the final. Another close encounter ensued, but Stewart and his Finnish partner proved too strong, beating Axel Garcian and Lamasine 7-5, 7-6 (3).
In singles, Stewart powered through the draw, reaching the final without dropping a set, including an extremely impressive 6-4, 6-0 semi-finals win over the top seed Mathias Bourgue. Despite the Scot rallying in the final to take the second set 7-6 (0), it was Lamasine who lifted the title.
Junior joy for young Scots
There’s been plenty to celebrate of late in the junior ranks as a host of young Scots picked up titles on the Lexus National Tour.
At events in Bath, there was a 12U doubles title for James Mills, while Fraser Newcombe finished second in singles.
Arran Shields won 9U singles in Leeds, while Kate Murray won a 14U consolation draw in Sunderland, where Dominik Czopek finished third in singles.
There was also a title for Cameron Rae at a 12U doubles event in Nottingham.
Meanwhile, a host of champions were crowned at the Scottish Junior Indoor Doubles Championships at Scotstoun in Glasgow. 128 players took part across 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U categories in a fantastic event which saw every pair guaranteed three matches.
