Success for Hamish Stewart & Aidan McHugh on pro tour

• 3 MINUTE READ

Hamish Stewart and Aidan McHugh enjoyed stellar weeks on the ITF World Tennis Tour, both reaching the finals of singles and doubles at their respective events.

Stewart won the singles title at the M15 Bucharest, where he also lost out in the doubles final. McHugh, meanwhile, was a champion in doubles at the M15 Huamantla 3 event in Mexico, but lost in the decider of the singles.

After dropping his opening set of the week in round one, Stewart powered through the draw without any further damage before winning his final against Nino Ehrenschneider in two tie-breaks.

In the doubles, the Scot enjoyed a strong week alongside Emile Hudd, the pair reaching the final without dropping a set before losing 4-6, 4-6 to Filippo Romano and Kai Wehnelt.

McHugh also dropped just one set en route to his singles final, where he was edged out over three by Alvin Nicholas Tudorica 2-6, 6-1, 1-6, although he was celebrating in doubles after reaching a second successive final with Charles Barry. This time the pair went a step further, beating Rafael De Alba and Alejandro Haven in the final to get their hands on the trophy.

MacKinlay & Hignett reach pro tour semis

Elsewhere on the pro tour, there was a semi-final at the M25 Roehampton for James MacKinlay and Liam Hignett.

The duo beat Lexus GB Pro-Series Glasgow champions Finn Bass and James Story en route to the last four, where they bowed out against Ben Jones and Philip Henning 4-6, 6-3, 6-10.

MacKinlay returns to home soil this week for the ATP Lexus Glasgow Challenger taking place at Scotstoun Tennis Centre. There’s free entry for spectators all week, with other entrants including GB Davis Cup star Dan Evans and last year’s doubles champion Scott Duncan.

Norrie reaches quarter-finals at Delray Beach

On the ATP World Tour, there was a quarter-final for Cameron Norrie at the Delray Beach Open 250.

The Scottish number one came through his opening two rounds without dropping a set, but the American third seed Alex Michelsen proved too strong in the last eight, winning 7-6 (3), 7-5.
